Atari 2600 VCS - Games Console
The Atari 2600 Video Game System was launched in October 1977 by the Atari Corporation. It is widely considered the first commercially succesful video game console to be based around the microprocessor and cartridge configuration.
"I specifically remember the day that we got an Atari 2600 games console. I remember my dad bringing it into the living room and I remember opening the box and connecting it up to our TV.
Obviously the first game we played had to be Space Invaders, and I still remember the noise those aliens made as they shuffled back and forth across the screen!
We only had two games for it!, so if we got bored of Space Invaders (which we didn't) then we could play Combat which was bundled with the console.
It wasn't until several months had passed that we (well my dad) considered buying another cartridge for it and that cartridge was Video Pinball." - Jason Fitzpatrick
